From June 19-23, 2023, Empact's Rescue Training Team embarked on a mission to San Ignacio, Belize, where they delivered an intensive training program that has significantly elevated the nation's rescue capabilities.
In just four days, our dedicated instructors trained 24 Belizean emergency responders in critical rope rescue and structural collapse techniques. This diverse group of participants represented the backbone of Belize's emergency services, including 17 firefighters from the Belize National Fire Service (BNFS) and 7 members of the Belize Institute of Search And Rescue Training (BISART).
The comprehensive training aimed to strengthen Belize's ability to respond effectively to a variety of emergency scenarios, from high-angle rescues to building collapses. By bringing these 24 professionals together in a collaborative learning environment, our team fostered invaluable communication and partnerships across agencies—a crucial factor in effective emergency response.
Our instructors, seasoned experts in technical rescue, ensured that the training was not only thorough but also tailored to the unique challenges faced by Belizean emergency services. Participants engaged in realistic scenarios, learning to apply advanced rescue techniques to potential disasters specific to their region.
The impact of this training extends far beyond the classroom. These newly trained professionals are now equipped with the knowledge and skills to implement advanced rescue techniques in challenging environments. This means more efficient rescues, improved victim survival rates, and ultimately, enhanced safety for communities across Belize.
In addition to the training, Empact Northwest facilitated the delivery of four pallets of essential firefighting gear. This equipment, including 23 pairs of leather boots, 35 pairs of protective pants, 33 coats, and other personal protective equipment, will significantly enhance the safety and effectiveness of Belize's brave first responders.
