Today, we're honored to share such a story – the remarkable journey, profound contributions, and heartwarming reunion of search canine Libby and her handler, Dave.
For 18 months, Dave and Libby served tirelessly on the front lines of the conflict in Ukraine.
Working alongside our partners at StaySafe UA, they faced daily challenges that tested the limits of human and canine endurance. Their mission was critical and multifaceted: delivering essential supplies to civilians trapped by the war, evacuating those in danger, and utilizing Libby's exceptional skills to provide vital search services.
The impact of their work is immeasurable. In times of conflict, when the fabric of society is strained to breaking point, it's heroes like Dave and Libby who step into the breach. They brought not just physical aid, but hope – a living reminder that even in the darkest times, there are those who will risk everything to help their fellow human beings.
We honor Dave and Libby for their immense contributions to the people of Ukraine and to humanity as a whole. Their unwavering dedication, courage, and compassion have touched countless lives and stand as a testament to the very best of what we can be when we put service above self.
Their story took an unexpected turn upon Dave's return to Seattle in August. Faced with a serious health diagnosis, Dave found himself in need of support – and Libby, his faithful partner, was still in Ukraine.
This is where the true strength of our global network shone through. In a coordinated effort involving Empact International, StaySafe UA, StaySafe US, Northwest Disaster Search Dogs, and our new partners at Puppy Rescue Mission, we embarked on a mission to bring Libby home.
It was no small feat. Libby's journey spanned over 5,000 miles, crossing continents and navigating complex logistics. But driven by the knowledge of the comfort and support Libby could provide Dave during his treatment, our team worked tirelessly to make it happen.
Today, we're overjoyed to announce that Libby is back in Seattle, reunited with Dave. Their reunion is a powerful reminder of why we do this work – of the bonds we forge, the lives we touch, and the difference we can make when we come together in service of others.
We're immensely grateful to everyone who played a part in this incredible journey – from our partners on the ground in Ukraine to the organizations that helped bring Libby home.
Most of all, we're thankful for Dave and Libby's service and sacrifice.
